More than a search

Finding jewellery online has never been easier. Finding the right jewellery is another matter entirely.

Condition, provenance, age, rarity, craftsmanship and value can all make a considerable difference, particularly when buying signed and pre-owned fine jewellery.

Our sourcing service isn’t simply about locating something that matches a description. It’s about knowing what is worth pursuing, what questions to ask and when a piece really is as special as it appears. That judgement comes from experience.

Before founding Luminary, I spent 17 years at Harrods working with some of the world’s leading jewellery Maisons. Today, that experience helps Luminary clients navigate a market that can otherwise feel rather daunting.

What can we source?

The starting point can be remarkably specific. You may know the Maison, collection, metal, stone, size or even reference you are searching for. If you do, tell us. The more we know, the more targeted the search can become.

But you don’t need a shopping list. You might simply be looking for an important anniversary gift, an engagement ring that feels different from everything you have seen elsewhere, or a piece of signed jewellery within a particular budget. In those cases, part of our job is helping you work out what the right piece might be.

From Cartier, Tiffany & Co., Van Cleef & Arpels, Boucheron and Bulgari to beautiful diamonds, coloured gemstones and unusual vintage pieces, every search begins with the individual rather than the inventory.

The advantage of looking beyond what's available today

One of the pleasures of pre-owned fine jewellery is that the possibilities extend far beyond the current collections of the major Maisons.

Designs are discontinued. Collections evolve. Pieces disappear into private collections for years before returning to the market. That means the jewellery you fall in love with may not be something you can simply order. But it may still be out there.

A specialist search can open the door to different periods, designs and pieces that rarely appear on the open market, and sometimes to something far more interesting than the piece you originally had in mind.

How does jewellery sourcing work?

It begins with a conversation. We’ll talk about what you’re looking for, your preferences, your budget and any non-negotiables. From there, I can use my experience and network to explore the market on your behalf.

When a potential piece is found, it isn’t simply a case of securing it as quickly as possible. We consider whether it meets the brief and, importantly, whether I believe it is a piece worth buying.

For most sourcing requests, the process takes around three to four weeks, although every search is different. And occasionally, finding something genuinely special requires patience. We think that's preferable to settling.

You don't have to know everything about jewellery

In fact, many of our clients come to us precisely because they don't. You don't need to understand diamond grading, know the differences between decades of Cartier production or be able to judge whether a pre-owned piece represents good value. That's our role.

Our approach is personal and straightforward: understand what you are trying to find, give you clear advice and use our expertise to help you make a decision with confidence. Because when you're spending thousands of pounds on a piece of jewellery, "close enough" isn't really good enough.
